I have worked at a state health dept in preparedness for 4 years and the biggest problem I have seen is a lack of coordination at the federal level. The various agencies working on preparedness seem very unclear about who is responsible for what. This causes duplication in some areas and no effort in others. This is a waste of time and money and ultimately will impact reponse to disasters. We have worked hard at the state level to improve coordination in both planning and response and have seen positive results that will ultimately help our communities respond to and recover from a disaster.
