It is critical the Long Term Recovery Committees/VOAD's are in place locally on a consistent basis. It is critical that at least one paid staff is on board to continue with the planning, preparedness and engagement efforts. These organizations coordinate, plan, exercise and engage all levels of nonprofits, faith based and the public in preparedness and recovery efforts. Lack of funding for these organizations on an ongoing basis creates a major gap in planning and preparedness. Minimal funding would yield tremendous results. All disasters are local and if these organizations stay active especially in high risk states, the result in the aftermath of a disaster would be that the local community would be disaster educated, prepared to respond and recover and working together in a unified effort; therefore minimizing duplication of efforts and services!
