I do not think there will be any major weather disturbance in Dade and the rest of Florida for the rest of the year. Therefore, insurance companies may relax and should not increate premiums for next year. I think it is best I express the thought in order to save monies and energies which could be better used somewhere else. Thank you for allowing me to participate.
Huge gaps exist in our ability to properly address catastrophic man-made and natural disasters. As a nation, however we do have the global resources to prepare, prevent, and/or mitigate most events. But, we must utilize all of our strategic resources to do so. This includes the vast resources of our Department of Defense (military). They have the command and communication structure, the training, the experience, and the ...more »
If we look at the way our Founding Fathers originally set up our country's levels of government, we will see that many of the questions and/or concerns were addressed a couple centuries ago. I refer to the County Sheriff's authority and responsibilities. Instead of creating multiple new agencies, offices, and departments, we need to back up and look at what we already have. Though there is some stability in redundancy, ...more »
I'd suggest that voluntary participation is not sufficient. The response is limited not only by those who have legitimate deficits in financing or expertise, but also by those who believe it's too much effort since "something like that has never happened here before". Argh! Somewhere along the way I picked up a saying that people don’t want the burden of rules and regulations until something bad happens. Only then do ...more »
I suggest you take the successful 2004 / 2006 DHS/FEMA HSIN-CI pilot program and implement it nationally. It proved that local knowledge and regional strength supported local resiliency and success in real world situations. It wa recognized by DHS Secretary Ridge and its predecessor was recognized by FBI Director Mueller.
(From my brother who is former navy logistics) Recommission Navy vessels for coastal disaster support. These vessels could be utlized to move eqiupment, medical supplies, food, water, etc, to coastal areas impacted by disasters.

I suggest you stop creating ideas and programs that hope to have people make massive changes of behavior and habits to follow. Work to identify activities and habits that are almost what is needed for a person to be resilient-and base outreach messaging on showing how a tiny tweak will make a big difference. Example: Most people carry useful stuff they use every day, they have bags, backpacks, trunks, purses. Add contact ...more »
There should be a bottom-up effort that compliments the large policy and dialogue-driven work FEMA is doing. I think grants should be available that allow local communities to prepare. For example, a grant could be used by faith-based organizations to purchase and store supplies and temporary shelter for their parishioners. Cities could use grant money to subsidize emergency kit distribution to low-income families. Local ...more »
Re-draft the Stafford Act to allow Tribal Governments more authority over declaring their own disasters than to be dependent upon a state disaster declaration to improve the government to government relationship that the federal government has with the 564 federally recognized Tribal Governments
Many emergency responders are concerned about the lack of information they receive about the railcar shipments of toxic inhalation hazard (TIH) through their communities. This lack of information places first responders at significant potential risk when they approach a derailed or some other rail related accident/incident. The security community, on the other hand is concerned about providing possible targeting information ...more »

A small percent of income taxes should be allocated to emergency supplies for the community where the person resides. There will always be those who don't think ahead. Technically, this may already be done, but perhaps a box like contributing to the presidential campaign can be used instead.

I suggest that the federal government take charge of identity theft technology. Identity theft is a major contributor to the economic loss of power by our citizens and businesses. As it stand right now identity theft protection can only be purchased through private vendors. The federal government gave us our identity through our SSN, they have the computer wherewithal l to monitor all of our transactions and our taxes. ...more »
