I disagreeRequire all governmental agencies and other critical infrastructure to develop and implement EMP protection and recovery plans in the event of an EMP event, man made or natural. That can include mitigation by using purchases of replacement parts that are sensitive to EMP and placing in appropriate harden locations, mandating future purchases include EMP protection be standard and other steps.

I disagreeDevelop, produce and air TV preparedness specials that cover various topics. The cable/TV markets can use those to meet and exceed their required public service announcement requirements. The same thing can be done by newspapers as well. Create a special insert for preparedness every month.

I disagreeHave all colleges that have emergency management degree programs to create Mobile Training Teams and Emergency Response Teams. In the MTTs, they would actually go around in the area they are in and provide training/seminars and other activities to improve the general preparedness of communities and so forth. The ERTs would be available to augument areas of need during a disaster. Like for example, they can assist C&C elements with their efforts or be assigned to assist a specific location or need as determined by appropriate authority. The teams would not only be getting valuable experience, but networking, real value training and other benefits including helping in researching disasters and so on. Creating the teams will mean creating standards that can be applied nationally and can only help improve preparedness in general.

I disagreeRequire all public buildings like libraries, court houses, fire stations and etc. to post preparedness information and such to be available to the public. Give an incentive like a tax break for private buildings that do so as well.

I disagreeStart up the nuclear war shelters designations again. I have not seen many of the old CD shelter signs and they can used as shelters and sources of information available. Make the signs noteworthy and include links to other sources of information and assistance.

I disagreeRequire that all LEOs, EMS and FD personnel undergo tactical 1st aid/medical care training. The idea being that after an active shooter scenario, there will be more qualified personnel to treat the wounded. Another benefit is that the EMS/FD will have better training and skills to deal with such scenarios or other involving active attacks and the training that all of the personnel recieves will be shared. Furthermore, ...more »

I disagreeRequire that all medical school students and nursing school students learn/practice disaster medicine and include them in exercises and other such events. We can also utilize the students for NDMS' DMAT teams. In disasters, they may not have all of what they are learning to use and need to have some idea of how to manage during a disaster.

I disagreeRequire all agencies that would respond to a disaster to include training and assistance for the families of the responders. We saw NOPD officers leave the city at the time they were needed most to take care of family and so on. Well, if the agency included training and other support to ensure the responders' families were taken care of or have the ability to handle the crisis, then the responders can focus on their job. ...more »

Well, if the agency included training and other support to ensure the responders' families were taken care of or have the ability to handle the crisis, then the responders can focus on their job. That includes having the necessary supplies to support operations for at least 7 days out in the field. The same would be required of the capabilities of the families of the responders.

I disagreeI would suggest that various local/count/state planners consider creating a Preparedness Cooperative. I would suggest that various local/count/state planners consider creating a Preparedness Cooperative. Basically what would happen is that the agency would create a coop and advertise within the community. The purpose of the coop is to provide those who join the opportunity to take steps to prepare. Like purchasing emergency supplies. The coop would find/support that action with either wholesale pricing or other leveraging actions. They would also make available training like 1st aid and other skills to be taught. The members would have to agree to volunteer time to educate others about emergency preparedness, the coop's goals and so on. There are several ways to find funds such as membership fees (nominal), grants and other funding. The idea is to have a ready made resource that goes out and tries to encourage others to prepare and learn. We can use the idea of having children learning about disasters and response. Not only teach them about disaster response but let them tell their parents/family about the coop. Basically the coop would be a way to encourage others to prepare, give them a mechanism to actually prepare and recieve valuable training. And the local agency gets a louder voice/presence in the community as well.l
